I hate my voice. I really do, it’s low and yet still screechy. It hurts my delicate auditory nerves. Offends my refined sense of sound. But who else is going to help test the equipment?
The raccoons? Hmmm… A possibility. They are practically roommates. Let them sing for their supper. Those worthless, deadbeat loafers.
But I digress, so far everything works. I mean there are lights and sounds. Bars move up and down on the screen. A good sign, I think. Now we just have to work on all that, well, other stuff like: sound levels, tracks, layering, and a bunch of gobbly-gook I don’t understand.
But hey, I’m a writer, not an engineer. I’m giving it all she’s got.
Written starting in 1910, the Tom Swift novels are among the first serial adventure stories written for boys – a trail blazer for other series like The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. Tom Swift, young inventor, has inspired generations of boys to dream big. Some of Tom’s fantastical inventions, radio “phones”, cameras, and even rocket ships were imagined in the stories long before they came to exist in the real world. His science reflected the burgeoning change of an industrial society transitioning into a technical era. His advances are almost quaint in comparison to how we live now, but they represent the creative thinking that has brought us to the technological age we live in today.
And of course there is adventure. Evil doers lurking around small town America, using Tom’s technology for their wicked schemes. But smart and resourceful, plus good with his fists, Tom always uncovers the Villains, saves the day, and usually adds a machine to his collection.
At Sump Pump Studio, we’re updating these classic novels. Part audio book and part play, we hope to bring the first novel, Tom Swift And His Motor-Cycle, to you soon!
